All UPDATES and NEXT STEPS

will be posted here.

Information is listed with date and time so that you know for sure that you have the most current information.

Due to the # of emails we are receiving, we will only be responding if your question is not answered below.

PLEASE CHECK BACK, especially before your audition, so that you have the most accurate information. Thank you!

March 10th: 3pm

  • PARENTS: PLEASE DO NOT COACH your daughters. I will help them and be here to support them 100%, but once they are coached and set in their ways, it makes my job that much more of a challenge. We are just looking for a natural, real, girl.

  • NOTES FOR MOVEMENT/DANCE:

    • Character Dance: This dance takes place at the Neva Club which is a sanctuary/refuge for the Russians who have exiled to Paris. This is the one place where they can freely be themselves so there's an air of release, freedom, pride and celebration. Make specific, strong character choices. Movement should be informed, clean and strong.

    • Ballet: This is a performance of Swan Lake within the show. Movement should have the grace, poise, strength and attitude applicable for this long revered ballet.

March 9th: 1:45pm

  • OUR ECC/EPA FRIENDS:

    • If joined us live and you were invited to submit video, here are your NEXT STEPS:

      • Please submit for ANASTASIA via Breakdown Services (and then please let me know once you do that Julia@Fllorescasting.com . I will send you an Eco Cast invite from there. FYI, you do not need to wait for the invite to start your video prep.

      • Although Eco Cast is preferred, if you don’t have an account with BS, you can submit directly to our email. Please see our website for all of the details: https://www.florescasting.com/anastasia.

      • Unless specifically asked to submit for a Principal role, please submit under Ensemble in Breakdown Services

      • Please be sure to follow the VIDEO AUDITION CHECKLIST below when you submit your videos

      • Video Due Date: Before end of day, Monday 3/16 please and thank you!

March 5th: 5:05pm

  • VLAD VOCAL MATERIAL: There has been an addition to Vlad's material so please check the "What To Prepare" sheet in the DB file.

March 4th: 6:30pm

  • CHOREO ALTERNATIVES have now been added to the DB File. There is one for our Movers and one for our Female Identifying Actors. You will still work off of the main combinations, but you now have options for some of the more challenging movements.

  • LITTLE ANYA (please continue to check back for updates...)

    • PLEASE DO NOT COACH your daughters. I will help them and be here to support them 100%, but once they are coached and set in their ways, it makes my job that much more of a challenge. We are just looking for a natural, real, girl.

    • Volunteer position. Gas stipend offered ($550).

    • We may be double casting the role. If this happens, each actress would be pre-assigned specific performances.

    • If we do not double cast, then there will be one onstage Little Anya and one offstage swing who would cover the onstage actress if/when she is ill or injured.

    • The actresses for Little Anya will be assigned a qualified Guardian to be with them during rehearsals and performances. Parents will not need to stay. We have been casting kids for over 30 years (national tours and LMT productions) and ALWAYS make sure they are happy and well taken care of!

  • EMAILS: Please hold on all emails right now. I am focused on casting prep right now/assembling all that you need to feel supported and prepared. I will do my best to respond and appreciate your patience in the meantime!

  • ALL CAST MUST BE HERE IN LA. We are receiving emails from a lot of NYers and unless you know you can be here live at some point, we need to stay focused on our LA hires.

  • Video Invites will start to go out this week.

    • Due to time constraints, we will only be viewing invited videos at this time. I respect your efforts and would hate to let any video left unseen. COME TO THE AEA auditions on 3/9 or 3/11.

  • All roles should submit choreo with the exception of: Gleb, The Dowager and Little Anya (see breakdown below for choreo levels/expectations)

March1st: 6:30pm

BREAKDOWN

Notes:

- No housing or travel available.

Anya/Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov: 20-30. Character identifies as female.

Anya is brave, fiery, witty, and above all determined. With no memory of her life before age 17 and having lived through the horrors of the

Russian Revolution, Anya jumps at the sound of gunshots and is distrustful of strangers, but there is steel hiding just beneath the surface. Anya is strong-willed and compassionate. Her mantra, “Home, love, family” is her goal. All she knows is her family is in Paris and she will find them however she can. G3-F5, Belt to D5. Disney-esque Soprano or Mezzo. Comfortable with movement.

Dmitry Sudayev: 25-32. Character identifies as male. Dmitry is a scoundrel with a heart of gold. A street rat who grew into a conman, Dimitry does all he does to get out of poverty and is not above lying, cheating, and stealing to do so–that is until he meets Anya. What starts as just another scheme (albeit much bigger than anything he’s tried to pull off before) turns into the adventure of a lifetime that requires Dimitry to look inward and figure out how to put the one he loves before himself. A2-G4. Leading man baritenor. Comfortable with movement.

Vladimir “Vlad” Popov: 45-60. Character identifies as male. Vlad is Dmitry’s partner in crime (literally) and surrogate father. Before the revolution he scammed his way through society pretending to be a count. Vlad is dramatic, crafty, and a big  softie at heart. While he, like Dmitry, is not above lying, cheating and stealing, he cares deeply for his loved ones and is generally affable, though he can be calculating when he needs to beVocals: A2-F4. Comic Baritone. Strong mover.

Deputy Commissioner Gleb Vaganov: 35-40. Character identifies as male. Gleb is the villain of the show, though not a bad person. He fully believes in the Communist ideals he follows. Loyal, honest, and hard working, Gleb almost has the potential to be a hero (he’s very much the hero of his own story). A deeply conflicted person, Gleb’s infatuation (and borderline obsession) with Anya leads to his battle with the idea of doing one’s duty vs. doing what is right. A2-Gb4. Baritone, on the legit side.

Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch: Late 30’s-40’s. Character identifies as female. Ideally a dancer. Lily is the lady in waiting to the Dowager Empress. She has been by the Dowager’s side since before the revolution. Lily is clever, dutiful, and above all fun (when not working for the Dowager). She deals with her exile from Russia with a sort of resigned dark humor...and a LOT of vodka. She and Vlad were once an item (unbeknownst to her oblivious husband) and rekindle their romance upon re-uniting. Mostly mezzo (with a brief B5). Jazzy/sultry with some comedy chops and an upper extension

Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna Romanov: 60-70 to play 80. Character identifies as female. The Dowager Empress has lost everything she once held dear and must now put up with imposter upon imposter never allowing her to grieve in peace. She is icy, proud, and regal (not to mention intimidating) to all but her family. Though, she does have a very sharp wit. She is especially warm with Anastasia both when a child and after it’s revealed that Anya really is the princess. She commands authority and attention the minute she enters a room. Range F3-Bb4. Mezzo/Alto, legit and profound tone

Young Anastasia/Alexei Romanov: 9-12 years old to play younger. No taller than 5’.  Character identifies as female. Actor/Singer/Mover. This role will also be in the ensemble. Volunteer position. Gas stipend offered. See Flores Casting website after 3/2 for details. Young Anastasia is the willful, brave, proud, and precocious youngest daughter of the Tsar. She has a special bond with her grandmother/”Nana”. Alexei was the Tsarevich (Heir to the throne) and only boy of the Romanov siblings. He suffered from debilitating hemophilia that often left him bed-ridden. Anya mentions that he was her best friend.

Female Identifying Ensemble: 20-40. Characters identify as female. Strong and versatile actor/singer/dancers to play a vast array of featured characters (Townsfolk, Royal Servants, Parisians, Reporters, and Aristocrats) as well as featured character tracks: Olga, Tatiana, Mariya, Paulina, Dunya, Marfa /Odette and Swans/Teen Anya (Dancers in the ballet). These tracks require dancing en pointe. Olga track also dances Odette and requires strong ballet ability. Our principal covers will be cast from within the ensemble. Looking for all voice types. Legit musical theatre sound (think Secret Garden, A Little Night Music, Ragtime, etc.)

Male Identifying Ensemble: 20-40. Characters identify as male. Strong and versatile actor/singer/dancers to play a vast array of featured characters (Townsfolk, Royal Servants, Bolshevik Officers and Soldiers, Parisians, Reporters, and Aristocrats) as well as featured character tracks. Our principal covers will be cast from within the ensemble. Looking for all voice types. Legit musical theatre sound (think Secret Garden, A Little Night Music, Ragtime, etc.).
